Salima Sugar Company sweetens Mother’s Day

Salima Sugar Company Limited on Tuesday marked Mother’s Day by donating assorted items to women in senior chiefs Khombedza, Makanjira and Mwanza in Salima District.

Speaking during the celebration at the company’s premises, Salima Sugar executive chairperson’s wife Alice Kosamu said the donation aimed at appreciating the community for protecting the company’s property.

She said women are at the heart of families and communities who nurture, inspire and guide how things are supposed to be done, hence, the need to celebrate them on their day.

“We celebrate with them annually and give them assorted items as a thank you for the good things they do for the workers of the company,” she said.

Kosamu urged the women to be in the forefront in exposing people who vandalise the company’s property.

“Those who vandalise or destroy the property of this company come from our homes. We need to take care of the company property. If the properties are vandalised, we will be the ones to suffer,” she added.

Senior Chief Mwanza called for unity in protecting the company.

“What Salima Sugar has done is commendable, the women are now benefitting from this company,” she said.

During the celebration, women were also encouraged to practise hygiene in their homes to prevent infections because it is healthy workers who contribute to the development of society.

The women received cooking oil, fortified maize flour, packets of sugar and a Mother’s Day chitenje from the company.

Earlier in the day, Salima Sugar also donated medical equipment to Salima District Hospital.

The company has spent K28 million on donations and the Mother’s Day celebrations
